Research
When design caters to the public, it has to move from being abstract to becoming more practical and approachable. For this, the solution needs to build upon a strong research base. At INI, we delve into analyzing and understanding the user engagement with the space, the way they move through it while experiencing and interacting with it. The research cell at INI actively engages in the ongoing and prospective projects to understand the interface between design and its social, cultural and environmental facets. Through research, we try to connect our ideas and design professionals with the academia and the community at large. Spreading the reach further, INI has also ventured in publishing. Our first book “DESIGNING for MODERN INDIA” provides insights into our work, ethos and design philosophy. Our ongoing research and publication ventures include research-based monographs and papers that attempt to theorize our works and their influence on the social, cultural and environmental parameters.
Academics
The International Fellowship Program offered jointly by INI Design Studio and Institute of Architecture & Planning, Nirma University (IAPNU) aspires to provide a comprehensive experience of research and practice in the emerging market economies. The program offers a full (16 weeks) or partial (8 weeks) semester in Ahmedabad, India that will have an in-depth research-based studio and a mainstream practice experience. Conducted with a learning by doing approach, the student at the end of the program shall have a thorough understanding of the issues, design process and deliverables in a fast-growing economy like India. This collaborative programme offered jointly by a university and an established multi-disciplinary design firm shall mainstream practice orientation and also help develop industry-academia linkages.
Sanskriti Eco.mmunity
‘Net Zero’ Community by Culture, Lifestyle & Design
Sanskriti Eco.mmunity was an idea seeded with the vision of a developmental alternative for human communities/ settlements to the existing consumer centric, capital intensive and resource guzzling models of building which have brought upon our planet the climate emergency, ecological unsustainability and a bleak future for the human race.
After intense research and always; this alternative model of development seeks to pursue an ethical strategy which is in alignment with natural systems and integrates the larger good of the planet with a technologically advanced, well provided, comfortable built environment and lifestyle within the community site. It seeks investment from like-minded individuals in establishing a mixed use community which incorporates systems that ensure a net zero energy, water and waste disposal situation where resources are not just conserved but are regenerated to yield ecological, socio-cultural and economic benefits to its residents as well as to the world at large.
